For our weekly and monthly tournaments we compute a Local La Mirada Disc Golf Course PDGA Rating.
I calculate our local ratings by first collecting the hole by hole scores for everyone that played in an event. Then I enter the scores with players name, PDGA #, and current PDGA rating if available. Using a spreadsheet provided by the PDGA I calculate the Scratch Scoring Average using all of the players that played in the tournament that have a current PDGA rating greater than 799 and that are not more than 2.5 standard deviations from their normal score. Given this information the spreadsheet computes the SSA. This is the score that a scratch 1000 level golfer would score on the course.
The spreadsheet automatically calculates everyone's Local PDGA rating based upon the SSA that was computed earlier.
Finally I take the results from each tournament and post them in another spreadsheet that computes the average Local PDGA Rating for every player that completed a round during a monthly or weekly tournament. I sort this list by Last Name for Ratings and then by Ranking beginning with the largest first to determine who is the #1 rated player at LM. These lists are updated weekly and the results are printed and available on the table next to the TV in the Pro Shop, or online after every results page.
Since the Local Rating is based upon ranked PDGA players it would be helpful if we could get more of the Advanced, Intermediate and Recreational players to join the PDGA and play in a couple of tournaments each year. There are several tournaments that occur locally each year, El Dorado (Long Beach), Huntington Beach and even here at La Mirada. This would allow me to use them as propagators in computing the SSA. I am unable to compute the SSA when I have less than 5 PDGA players playing in any event.
